At Coat Care Canine Spa, we believe healthy coats lead to happy dogs. Grooming isn’t just about looking cute—it’s a key part of your pet’s comfort and health. Whether your dog is fluffy, curly, or sleek, here’s what every pet parent should know:
1. Brush Often, and Use the Right Tools
Regular brushing prevents matting, reduces shedding, and keeps the skin healthy.
Curly coats (Doodles, Poodles): Use a slicker brush and metal comb several times a week.
Double coats (Goldens, Huskies): Daily brushing with an undercoat rake or deshedding tool.
Short coats (Boxers, Bulldogs): Weekly brushing with a rubber curry brush.
Mats can form fast and become painful—don’t wait until it's a problem.
2. Every Dog Needs a 4–6 Week Grooming Schedule
All pets—regardless of coat type—should be professionally groomed every 4 to 6 weeks. Regular grooming:
Prevents matting
Keeps nails, ears, and skin in check
Supports coat health and reduces discomfort
Missing appointments often leads to skin issues, matting, and sometimes even shave-downs.
3. Watch for Coat Trouble
A dull, greasy, flaky, or smelly coat means something’s off. Common red flags include:
Tangled or matted areas
Excessive shedding
Waxy or oily buildup
Hot spots or irritated skin
Our deshedding and coat restoration treatments are gentle and effective—perfect for sensitive pups or seniors.
4. Nutrition Matters
What your dog eats shows up in their coat. A high-quality diet with omega-3s and plenty of hydration keeps the coat shiny and skin healthy. We’re happy to recommend foods and supplements if your pup needs a little extra support.
